Welcome

My name is Megan, and I am a Physiotherapist and Functional Medicine Health Coach. I am passionate about all things health and food related.

I see optimal wellness as a journey in which we need to address all aspects of our life including nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress and social connection. All of our body systems are connected, and when we do not look after each of the systems or have an imbalance, things start to go wrong. This is when we tend to experience symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, decreased immunity, chronic pain or we develop a chronic condition.

Life is busy and stressful, and often we require support in order to achieve this balance. As a Health Coach, my role is to support you through your wellness journey, and help you set goals, identify challenges and make behaviour or habit changes in order to move towards your optimal state of wellbeing.

Qualifications

My Approach

I see you as a whole person who is resourceful, intelligent and who knows what they want to do in life. I see you as the expert of your own journey, and provide support from the side using my expertise in physiology, behaviour change, motivation and goal setting.

With my background in science and healthcare, and training in functional medicine, I use an evidence-based and holistic approach to understand your health condition. I am able to support you in making personalised, positive changes in order to reduce your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

My Journey

From a young age, I was ‘that’ kid who loved to read books on nutrition, medical conditions and science. I was fascinated by the effect that food has on our health, and loved sharing healthy recipes with family and friends. I would always volunteer to cook dinner (not too much has changed!).

From school I went on to study a BSc in Human Life Sciences. Despite loving all that I was learning about the human body and factors that affect its functioning, I felt disconnected from people and wanted a career that was more directly involved in physically helping people improve their health.

The next natural step was to study Physiotherapy, which combined my interests of science, medicine, exercise and physically helping others. This instantly became a passion for me, and I truly felt exactly where I was meant to be.

However, through my clinical work, I was exposed to just how many people are affected by diseases of lifestyle. From diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol problems, to hormone imbalances, lung diseases and nutrient deficiencies to name a few. Majority of the patients that I was treating had conditions that were either avoidable, or at least manageable through diet and lifestyle interventions.

What was the missing piece here? If people knew what they were supposed to be doing, why weren’t they doing it?

I realised the missing piece was surrounding behaviour change.

As if the final piece in the puzzle for me - from theoretical knowledge, to hands on medical treatment, and now behaviour change - I realised that if we are to be healthy, we need to be able to make positive changes and optimise our lifestyles.

This lead me to the field of Functional Medicine Health Coaching, which enables me to partner with clients to make sustainable behaviour changes.

I believe that through my journey in science and healthcare, as well as training in behaviour change, I can help support you to optimise your health and reduce the effect of your health condition on your life.
